Ministerial support for FarU universities

The Minister of Education and Science, Przemysław Czarnek, presented cheques for capital projects as well as research and development to the Rectors of the universities within the FarU. The symbolic transfer of funds took place on 26 November during the ceremony of signing and laying the foundation plaque for the construction of the Gdańsk Tech Eco-Innovation Centre. The FarU authorities were represented by: Prof. Krzysztof Wilde – Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology, Prof. Piotr Stepnowski – Rector of the University of Gdańsk, and Prof. Michał Markuszewski – Vice Rector for Science of the Medical University of Gdańsk, the representative of the Rector of the MUG for the Fahrenheit Universities.

The Gdańsk University of Technology received nearly PLN 15 m, whereas the University of Gdańsk – PLN 13.8 m. The Medical University of Gdańsk, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Health, was granted nearly PLN 1 m for the creation of the Laboratory of Confocal Microscopy and Dermoscopy.

In his speech, the Minister underlined the importance of the Fahrenheit Universities.

– Gdańsk is becoming the third largest research centre in Poland and this is clear in the whole of the country. We look at this with great expectations and show the FarU as an example of a successful federalisation of universities with their autonomy retained – emphasised Minister Przemysław Czarnek.
