The 4th Fahrenheit Science Picnic Is Behind Us – See What Happened on Góra Gradowa!

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, the next edition of the Fahrenheit Science Picnic took place. The event featured a wide range of attractions such as spectacular shows, experiments, science workshops, and competitions that drew in large crowds. The organisers of the event were the Fahrenheit Universities: the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG), Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk Tech), and the University of Gdańsk (UG), along with Hevelianum.

Throughout the day, Gradowa Hill was visited by numerous Tricity residents and tourists, including families with children, young people, seniors, and science enthusiasts - 4900 participants together!

The official opening of the 4th Fahrenheit Science Picnic began with a performance by the Gdańsk Academic Orchestra conducted by Marcin Janek and speeches by special guests, including the rectors of the three universities: Prof. Michał Markuszewski (GUMed), Prof. Krzysztof Wilde (PG), and Prof. Piotr Stepnowski (UG), as well as Prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, Director of the Fahrenheit Universities Association, Anna Morawska, Deputy Director of Hevelianum, and Ludwik Szakiel, Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Development at the Pomeranian Voivodeship Marshal’s Office. Szakiel also officially congratulated this year’s scholarship recipients, completing year-long internships at MUG (Yimer), Gdańsk Tech (Gilvana), and UG (Nathalia).

The stage program, held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., brought science to life in creative and engaging ways — with highlights such as a zero-waste fashion show, a spectacular science show about oceans, a rescue operation simulation, a space-themed stand-up comedy, student project presentations, and expert talks — all met with great enthusiasm from the audience.

We’re thrilled that the Fahrenheit Science Picnic draws in such large crowds year after year. The event blends knowledge with fun, sparking passion for science across all age groups and interests. Today, we have more than 800 educators from our three universities who are eager to share their passion in an engaging and accessible way, said Prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, Director of the Fahrenheit Universities Association and the originator of the Science Picnic.

This year, the Science Village featured an impressive 60 tents set up by MUG, PG and UG. Visitors could gain knowledge through observation, hands-on experiments, educational games, and creative workshops. The village was divided into zones representing the three member universities.

At the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) stands, students and staff amazed visitors with knowledge about body care and health, physiological processes, nutrition, and disease prevention. Attendees could even explore what's inside the human body through interactive exhibits.
Gdańsk University of Technology (PG) offered impressive physics and chemistry experiments, architectural models, and demonstrations using professional astronomical equipment.
In the University of Gdańsk (UG) tents, guests learned about animals and microorganisms in our environment, explored the Baltic Sea, and examined human impact on climate change. There were also engaging quizzes, games, and activities to make learning easy and enjoyable.

The youngest visitors were treated to a dedicated Kids Zone with animations, crafts, music, and even storytime. A highlight was the launch of a new children’s book on healthy habits, titled "Professor Główka’s Good Advice", with free copies available for families to take home.

The event's partners also contributed themed zones on pharmacology, energy, ecology, career development, and healthy lifestyles. Visitors looking for physical activity after a mental workout could enjoy the Movement Zone, while the health zone offered free preventive health screenings and first aid demonstrations, courtesy of GUMed.

Throughout the event, attendees had access to free drinking water, provided by GIWK and Gdańskie Wodociągi, and free soup stations.

Once again, this year’s Fahrenheit Science Picnic proved that outdoor science can be accessible, diverse, and incredibly exciting.
