The Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk was established upon the joint request of the Rectors of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk. The senates of the three leading universities of Pomerania adopted relevant resolutions and endorsed the wording of the Statutes specifying the range of responsibilities, the bodies and the way of managing that new organisation.
The most important task of the Union is the best possible use of the resources and potential of the three universities forming the Union. Its activities focus on the development of solutions supporting joint research and development work, as well as the recommendations pertaining to the consolidation or creation of new, intercollegiate doctoral schools.
One of the Union’s strategic tasks is to pursue a common promotion and ranking policy, especially on the international arena, as well as express opinions and represent the common interests before state and local government administration and in relation to legislative initiatives. The Union is also supposed to enhance the publishing activities of the Gdańsk Tech, UG and MUG.
The Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and University of Gdańsk have been undertaking joint initiatives in the scientific, educational and organisational areas for many years. Owing to the creation of the Union of Universities, it is possible to enhance current cooperation and create in Pomerania one of the strongest academic centres in Poland.
The Union’s supervising body is the Union Assembly comprising the Rectors and the Chairpersons of the Universities’ Councils.
