Are you a PhD student conducting interdisciplinary research? Would you like to undertake a year’s internship in one of the best universities in northern Poland? This proposal is for you.
The Mayor of Gdansk in cooperation with the Fahrenheit Universities have created Fahrenheit scholarships for the best three PhD students from abroad. The Gdansk-born world class physicist, engineer and the creator of a temperature scale used in many countries all over the world was chosen to present the vision of Gdansk as an open and ambitious city which invests in science.
We encourage young scientists who are preparing a doctoral dissertation at your university, are the authors or joint authors of a scientific publication and wish to pursue their scientific interests at one of Polish leading universities to take advantage of the offer.
The scholarship programme will be best described by the interns of 1st edition: Anna, a PhD student from the University of Crete, Maria from the University of Pernambuco in Brazil, and Stabak, a PhD student from the Tripura University in India.

Rules of the scholarship programme for PhD students are set in the Gdańsk Council Resolution no. LII/1300/22 dated 30 June 2022 regarding the Mayor of Gdańsk Fahrenheit Scholarship programme for students and PhD students.

The winners of the 3rd edition:
Gilvana Pereira Siqueira from Brazil (Federal University of Uberlândia), whose researchs focus on the use of sustainable materials for the manufacturing of modern, 3D printable electrochemical sensors.
Host higher education institution: Gdańsk University of Technology
Nathalia Pavan from Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP. Druing the internship she is planning to explore a theoretical approaches for characterization of potential ligands binding in fatty acid binding sites in human serum albumin.

Yimer Mekonnen Kasse, a PhD student of the Ghent University. The goal of his research is the sustainable removal of anthelmintics as emerging environmental contaminants of high concern.

The winners of the 2nd edition:
José Daniel da Silva Fonseca from University of Pernambuco, Brazil. The main objective of his project is the use of carbonaceous materials derived from sugarcane bagasse and miscanthus fibers to enhance nutrient uptake in an energy crop, miscanthus.

Dipankar Das from Tripura University. During the internship he wants to focus on development of geopolymer based cement less construction materials for a sustainable environment.

Agnes Venema from University of Malta & 'Mihai Viteazul' National Intelligence Academy and her goal of the research is to guide intelligence and law enforcement agencies on how to use AI-enabled
tools to identify persons in crowded spaces as a tool in their counter-terrorism arsenal as effectively and
efficiently as possible.

The winners of the first edition of the Mayor of Gdańsk's Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit Scholarship Programme for international PhD students:
Anna Panagiota Souri, a PhD student of the University of Crete. During the internship, she is planning to improve her knowledge and broaden her experience in the heterogeneous photocatalysis and techniques used in chemical analysis. Planned research work will pertain to the design, synthesis and analysis of new layered photocatalysts based on a double hydroxide.

Maria Alaide de Oliveira of the University of Pernambuco, Brazil. The project applied for comprises research work on obtaining new catalysts based on metal-organic compounds, the characteristics of those photocatalysts and the measurements of photocatalytic activity in the hydrogen generation process.

Stabak Roy, a PhD student of the Tripura University, India, whose research plans are related to the operation of rail transport in the urban area of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot and to the use of geospatial and geostatistical applications for that purpose
